*Disgusted and totally sick with what some people did to one of my published novel (they totally changed the story, the personality of my characters and turned it into TV crap!), I started writing Wrightful Heir as a means to vent out my anger and frustrations and to keep me from going berserk and crazy. Ha! Ha!. Wrightful Heir is my first E-Book. It is full of adventure, magic, twists and turns and strong characters. It is the story of Prince Wright who has decided to go against fate and create his own destiny with his own hands. Even if it meant fighting the whole world and being labeled as the Lord of Darkness.- Arielle
LADY Alana’s giggles were replaced with sighs and moans. Wright was proud of his accomplishments tonight. He not only managed to wrest the Lady away from her maids, but he also secured a private spot for them here in the palace’s rose garden. And now, to cap his victory, he will now find out if Alana is truly worthy to become his bride.
“Prince Wright...” Alana’s voice beseeched him. She wanted him. Her body screamed with desires he had awoken in her.
This ritual to prove Lady Alana's purity does not need witnesses. It was a private act between them. His word would bear witness to Alana’s purity or unworthiness once they stand before the Oracle.
No one could lie before the Oracle. The Oracle always knew the truth. And lying before the Oracle would have dire consequences. If he lied about Alana's purity or worse maligned her, he will be immediately stripped of his legacy! The world of Haldor required it’s king and future king to be brave, good and above all else, honest. For centuries the Oracle had always made sure that only the most worthy man would ever become king of Haldor.
Nothing can be hidden from the Oracle. It's powers were everywhere. Even now, Wright could feel the Oracle's eyes constantly watching him. Recording his every word and action.
He glanced towards the direction of the Oracle's Temple. What he saw surprised him. A pillar of pure white light reaching towards the night sky was coming from the Oracle’s grounds!
His fiery passion cooled instantly. A much more stronger emotion, began to stir within him. Something was not right!
“Prince Wright?” Alana’s voice was confused. She felt the change in him.
“Get dressed my Lady. This ritual needs to be postponed. Something is happening in the Oracle’s grounds.”
He quickly put on his shirt and trousers.
“Forgive me my Lady, but this is an emergency. Please go back to the palace. Stay in your room. Surround yourself with your maids and do not leave for whatever reason.”
From the gardens, he went running towards the secret passage that connects the Oracle’s ground to the Palace. Only a few people knew of this passage. To ordinary folks, their only access to reach the Oracle was the wide cobbled path from the town center that ended on the gates of the Oracle's Temple.
He emerged from the passage and began running towards the source of the pillar of light. He soon realized that the light was coming from the Eternal Spring in the middle of the Oracle grounds! The Oracle temple had been built around the spring. Crystal clear waters had been coming out of it since time immemorial. Pilgrims have drank and taken waters from it. Some even believed that the spring’s water can cure diseases.
The Eternal Spring was also the guardian of the Sword of Truth. It allowed everyone to see the half buried sword on it’s bottom, silently waiting for the time when the Oracle would announce the start of the Legacy ritual.
Many have tried to steal the sword. All failed and paid with their lives.
Only the chosen one, the future king of Haldor could drew the sword during the Legacy ritual. And Prince Wright by birth, blood and training was chosen to become the future king of Haldor. The Sword of Truth was his birthright.
Wright wasn’t the only one who saw the pillar of light. His father, King Saxon and the rulers of the five regions of Haldor were already gathered around the Eternal spring. Fear was etched on their faces as the Temple guards ran around in confusion as if looking for something or someone.
“What has happened father?” Wright panted as he approached the group.
Everyone turned towards him.
“Is this your doing Wright? Is this one of your crazy pranks?” his father’s voice was grim. “Please tell me this was one of your jokes!”
“I do not understand what you are saying father? I have nothing to do with that pillar of light!”
“The sword is gone!” shouted his father.
“The Sword of Truth? But that is impossible! Only I can take it and there’s a ritual to be performed before I can even claim it!” he protested. He looked at everyone’s faces. He realized everyone thought he was the one responsible for this! “I did not take the sword!” he swore.
Falstaff of Gorge who had always been brave even in the face of death now showed fear in his eyes.
“The pillar of light from the Eternal Spring only appears when the Sword of Truth has chosen it’s new master. When it chose your father before, the waters of the spring glowed like this for three days. This light will only fade once the Sword of Truth is put back into the waters by the one it had chosen.”
“Are you telling me that the sword had been stolen?”he asked in alarm.
“The Sword of Truth cannot be stolen!” Thorn of Ferrest insisted. “ Only the Chosen one can possess and hold it. Anyone else who tries to get the sword by magic or by any other means would be engulfed in flames and burned to ashes! No one who is not the Chosen one can survive the flames of the Sword of truth!”
“If it was stolen, the culprit’s ash will be found here, and the sword would have returned to the bottom of the spring.” Amando of Mussur looks troubled.
Everyone lapsed into silence. Like Wright, each one was asking how this could be possible. He was the Chosen one! The future heir of the Kingdom. He was the only one who could touch the sword and live.
“The sword wasn’t stolen.” declared the voice of the Oracle.
All eyes turned to the Oracle. She was now in her Wisdom incarnation. Her yellow shadowfire blazed behind her. Her brown eyes gleamed with knowledge. They waited in silence for her next words, for Wisdom was the incarnation of the Oracle that can see the present and know the truth inside a man's heart.
“The Sword of Truth had chosen the rightful heir for the World of Haldor.” Wisdom's clear and even voice shocked everyone.
“I am the rightful heir!” Wright protested.
Wisdom’s emotionless eyes bored down on him.
“There is someone more worthy than you Prince Wright. And the Sword has chosen him. You will no longer be the next king of Haldor.”
Wright was stunned speechless! Everything he had done and prepared for all his life was now meaningless. He had become a nobody. His future and legacy had been taken away from him! This was unfair! This was not right!
But the Oracle had spoken. And her words becomes the truth and the law in the world of Haldor. Wright could not challenged the Oracle’s words. Because challenging it would mean his death! *******
